Andreas Kägi was born into a musical family in Bern in 1948 and received his first cello lessons at the age of seven. After studying music, he decided to pursue a career as a violin maker. He completed his education at the State College of Violin Making in Mittenwald, then worked as a journeyman at Emil Pliverics & Sohn in Berlin and at Hug & Co. in Zurich and completed the master craftsman examination.
